The awareness campaign for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), the Ice Bucket Challenge that swept US by storm, is now buzzing in Asia.
A host of Asian superstars are now taking up the challenge to drench their perfectly styled hair with copious amounts of icy water. Some of the celebrities who recently took up the challenge include Andy Lau, Jay Chou, Donnie Yen, Wang Lee Hom and Zhang Ziyi.
Of the lot, Andy Lau’s icy moment was the most elaborate. Produced like an MTV with multiple camera angles, the clip features slow motion effects and a lot of acting chops. At one point, we were almost certain Lau was thinking of breaking into his iconic song “忘情水” (Forget Love Potion). In the video, Andy challenged Jay Chou to lend support to the ALS movement, which Chou gladly accepted. Taking a more light-hearted approach to the challenge, Jay Chou was doused with ice water by his assistant even before he could finish his sentence.

The most intense challenge location had to be action star Donnie Yen’s filming location. He gamely perform the challenge in frosty 6 degree celsius in Auckland, New Zealand.
