Hong Kong superstar Jacky Cheung is finally reaping the benefits of his latest music album “Wake Up Dreaming – 醒著做夢”, an album that took 10 years to produce.
Fondly known as the “God of Songs” due to his vocal prowess, Cheung’s latest album was released globally on iTunes on 23 Dec. In just under 24 hours, it topped the iTunes chart in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
In an industry that produces a lot of one-hit wonders and singers who come and go, Cheung’s belongs to a rare breed of singers who stand the test of time with his pop ballads. And this album was no different. Collaborating with highly sought-after music director Andrew Tuason, the tracks are a showcase of Cheung’s vocal range and powerful voice over orchestral music. To give the album a fuller music experience, 99% of all music used in the album was recorded with actual instruments instead of using sounds electronically produced.

When asked whether he is worried that his style of singing is out-of-date, 53 year-old Cheung was the least bit concerned, adding he will keep singing for as long as he can. Having sold 60 million albums globally since breaking into the scene in the 80s , the recent record-breaking sales for “Wake Up Dreaming” is testament to his popularity in the Chinese pop music arena as well as his fans’ undying support for him.
“Wake Up Dreaming – 醒著做夢” is Jacky Cheung’s 97th album and also marks his illustrious 30-year career.
