To get a role in a movie, you will need to be prepared to audition for any role, any time of the day. Apparently, even over dinner. That was what director Stephen Chow made former EXO member, Kris Wu do during his audition for a role in the new movie, “The Mermaid”.
Epoch Times reported that the singer, who recently appeared at “The Mermaid” press conference in Guangzhou alongside the director and other cast members, was asked to play a man suffering from Parkinson’s Disease, and an uncultured nouveau riche while having dinner with Stephen Chow.
He made the cut after giving a convincing performance of the two characters and landed a role to star in the Chinese science fiction comedy film.
Stephen said he wasn’t trying to make fun of the disease, but wanted to see how Kris would try to portray something that has a certain level of difficulty. “Some people may exaggerate it, while others would simply refuse to do it,” he said.
However, Stephen said that he didn’t use the same criteria when auditioning other members of the cast. “For example, Kris has experience in acting, but not Lin Yun. I assess their performance during the audition based on the given situation and see if they are suitable for the role in the movie,” he said.
However, both Kris and Stephen remained tight-lipped about the singer’s role in the movie. The Mermaid will be released during Lunar New Year.
