5 unforgettable moments from the 2015 Oscars

The 2015 Oscars may not have had much in the way of surprise winners, but it did contain numerous moments that will be etched in our memories. We list the five most unforgettable moments from the annual glitzy awards show.

1. Lady Gaga stole the show with her ‘Sound of Music’ tribute

Lady Gaga dispelled any lingering doubt from her detractors of her singing abilities as she showed off her vocal abilities, perfectly nailing every note with ease. This lady has really got some pipes, and like the rest of the world, we sure didn’t expect this from her at the Oscars – we were also glad that she appeared on stage without those silly rubber gloves.

2. Neil Patrick Harris’ opening segment featuring Anna Kendrick

“Tonight we honour Hollywood’s best and whitest… sorry, brightest.”

That was the opening punchline to the Oscars, alluding to the pre-show criticism that the list of nominees this year was overwhelmingly made up of white Caucasians.

After which, he broke into a remarkable song and dance routine (as is usually expected). Joining him was Hollywood’s latest darling Anna Kendrick, while Jack Black made a cameo as well, holding up (surprise, surprise) a Samsung mobile phone.

3. The amazing and inspiring thank you speeches

Seems like the trend at the Oscars to include some sort of a message into thank you speeches. Those that stood out were Common and John Legend talking about racial equality and J.K. Simmons’ advice to “call your mum, call your dad”.

4. When Neil Patrick Harris came on stage in only his tighty whities

The less said about this, the better.

5. Joan Rivers was left out of the Oscars ‘In Memoriam’ tribute

It’s a pity she’s no longer around to joke about it.
