Two upcoming ‘Star Wars’ movies have been announced by Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger at a recent shareholder’s meeting in San Francisco. One of the movies will be the first stand-alone ‘Star Wars’ film, entitled “Rogue One”, and the second movie will be the continuation to this year’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, according to StarWars.com. ‘Rogue One’ is set to begin shooting this summer and is slated for release on 16 December 2016. Oscar nominee Felicity Jones for her role in ‘The Theory of Everything’, will be starring in this upcoming film. Director Gareth Edwards will helm the project while Chris Weitz will pen the script.
During the meeting in San Francisco, Disney also showcased the first concept art for Rogue One.
“My personal take on it was it evoked concept art of a video game. It personally screamed Halo to me. It was very dark and done in greens, so it evoked the idea that it was being done under the cloak of night. Dozens of figures in fatigues appeared to be storming something with a strange helicopterish vehicle (open on the sides) in the background, releasing more troops,” said fan site Stitch Kingdom.
‘Star Wars VIII’ will be continuing the saga after the events of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. The film will be written and directed by ‘Looper’ filmmaker, Rian Johnson. The release date for the film is set for 26 May 2017. In the meantime, Star Wars fans can look forward to ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, to be released in cinemas on 17 December 2015.
