The #Voice of China Season 4 is off to a great start. In this season, contestants face 4 judges – Jay Chou, Na Ying, Harlem Yu and Wang Feng – to vie for a spot in one of the judges’ team and be mentored by them to achieve vocal greatness and superstar showmanship.
In episode 1, contestant Leon Lee received high marks for his rendition of ‘Love Is Over’, a popular song from the 90s. Only 21 years old, he impressed all 4 judges, who gave him their votes as they spun around in their swivel red chairs.
Life is not all always a bed of roses for Leon, who flew all the way from Sydney, Australia for The Voice of China 4. Battling obesity all his life, Leon weighs 153kg at his heaviest and was never given a shot at being a recording artiste. “I have been to singing auditions at various record companies. Once, after waiting for 3 hours, I was asked (by the staff) to leave after they took a look at me, saying that I can leave and don’t have to sing,” recalled Leon.
His perseverance finally paid off on the show. In a competition that favours vocals over looks, he is now a step closer to fulfilling his dreams. leon is Jay Chou’s first student in the show. We look forward to more amazing songs from him.
