After weeks of intense singing matches, Zhang Lei has emerged as the winner of The Voice of China 4.
The result did not come as a surprise as the 34-year-old contestant from Na Ying’s team had consistently been the hot favourite. In the semi-final round, Zhang Lei also came up tops amongst the final 10 contestants.
Judges and music critics often praised Zhang Lei for his relaxed and effortless singing style, particularly when it came to folk songs (ming yao). For fans, Zhang Lei’s soothing voice was a nice breath of fresh air compared to some of his opponents who relied heavily on their power-house vocals to stand out.
The final round of The Voice of China 4 competition was very much anticipated by the top 5 contestants as they got to sing the spectacular China National Stadium (affectionally known as the Bird’s Nest Stadium) in Beijing.
On the day of the competition, Leon Lee, Bei Bei and Tan Xuan Yuan were the first three to be eliminated, leaving Zhang Zitong from Team Jay Chou to vie head on with Zhang Lei. Zhang Lei emerged as champion after garnering 58.53% of the votes.
Zhang Lei’s win was a huge boost to Na Ying too — as the veteran singer and now seasoned The Voice of China coach is now a 3-time champion coach in the competition.
