    A recent study has prompted the Daily Mail to recommend that families ban fruit juices from the dinner table.

    It references a study by the Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology journal, which warned that orange juice is potentially as bad as sugary, sweetened drinks.

    A 250ml serving of orange juice contains 115 calories – or seven teaspoons of sugar, while a can of regular Coke has 139 calories, the report says, adding that fruit juices are fuelling sharp rises in obesity rates, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

    The report also raises concerns that most parents wrongly believe that fruit juice is healthy.

    Families are advised to give children milk or water instead.
