Ever ran into a situation where you celebrate an occasion in a restaurant and only to be bill-shocked at the end of the meal just because you ordered a bottle of wine? Or having to cut back on an experience in a good class restaurant by skipping drinks because it will blow up the bill?

In Singapore, it can get really expensive to dine out once you add drinks to the repertoire of items you want to try. Even if price is of no issue, you may not get to enjoy the meal with your favourite wine. Robert Parker Wine Advocate (RPWA), a widely read consumers’ guide to fine wine, debuting a new programme called RP Benefits to solve this dilemma.

As a member of RP Benefits, you can bring your own bottle, wine or otherwise, at no corkage charge or at a discounted rate when dining at over 50 restaurants in Singapore. These includes Michelin-starred and Michelin-listed establishments like Shisen Hanten by Chen Kentaro,  The Corner House, Meta Restaurant and Labyrinth. According to RPWA, more establishments will be added to the list periodically.

    RP Benefits offers the following:

    • Bring-your-own-bottle privilege
      • You can bring your personal, curated collection of wines to pair with your meal when dining at over 50 partnering restaurants. You can refer to the list of restaurants in the table below. Terms and conditions apply.
    • Special promotions
      • Other than being about to BYOB, the programme also includes exclusive offers at more than 70 restaurants and bars such as complimentary wine tasting experiences at leading wine merchants and wineries–up to 20% discount at renowned restaurants, complimentary wine pairings at Alma by Juan Amador and La Terre.
    • Unique experiences
      • At launch, about 20 restaurants will offer experiences like menu upgrades, a complimentary glass of wine or sake, kitchen tour or even a drink with the chef at the kitchen.

Sounds too good to be true? The caveat here is that you need to be a subscriber of Robert Parker Wine Advocate. For more details about signing up for a Personal Subscription (USD99/year), visit RobertParker.com. Once you become a member, you can redeem the benefits through the RP Benefits mobile application available on the Apple store and Google Play store.
