Fancy taking an icy bath for a good cause? The Ice Bucket Challenge, a programme designed to raise money and awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease has set social media ablaze. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that causes muscle weakness and atrophy throughout the body due to the degeneration of the upper and lower motor neurons.
Thanks to Facebook’s poster boy, Mark Zuckerberg, the ALS is getting the awareness it needs. What Zuckerberg did was he accepted the challenge issued by the Governor of New Jersey Chris Christie and in turn, challenged Microsoft’s founder Bill Gates to douse himself with icy cold water. This, Gates also gamely accepted.
