We wouldn’t normally think of Swarovski crystals as edgy or cool but under the hands of late fashion maverick Alexander McQueen, the pretty stones have been turned into amazing works of art.

Indeed, McQueen’s macabre-style designs and Swarovski’s elegant vibe aren’t exactly a match made in heaven. But surpisingly, the crystal house has been featured quite heavily in some of McQueen’s most iconic runway moments over 15 years.

These pieces of wearable art are now featured in the Savage Beauty exhibition at the V&A in London and spans McQueen’s career from his 1992 MA graduate collection to his unfinished 2010 Autumn/Winter collection. Those interested to catch the exhibition in London should book their travels soon as the exhibition ends 19 July.

Here’s a peek at some of McQueen’s dramatic and stunning masterpieces.
