I’m a Barbie girl in a Barbie world! That seems to be the mood over at Milan Fashion Week when American-born fashion designer Jeremy Scott unveiled his Barbie-inspired Moschino Spring/Summer 2015 “Think Pink” capsule collection.
Taking cues from Mattel’s iconic doll, Scott feels that Barbie is very much aligned with his fashion philosophy of bringing joy to people.
“Every little girl and lots of little boys have grown up loving her. So she’s the cue for the collection this season. There are no other references because she encompasses everything. She’s had every job. She’s even been an astronaut. Barbie basically is the full package – plus she loves an evening dress which is very important for Moschino”, says Scott.
Featuring an extensive use of candy floss pink, the collection includes headbands, handbags, backpacks, iPhone cases, and clutch bags. The Barbie-inspired collection is Scott’s second with Moschino, the first being a controversial fast food inspired collection that was an instant sell-out.
The full collection is available online at nordstrom.com and stylebop.com starting from 21 September 2014. Prices range from US$35 for a headband to US$1,995 for a leather bag. We will leave it to you to decide whether the Barbie-look is worth that price tag.
