British high street fashion label Topshop tops this year’s weird fashion trends with its latest MOTO Clear Plastic Straight Leg Jeans, a fashion item made entirely out of plastic and completely see-through. We guess someone in Topshop decided that the public is now ready to accept fashion forward individuals sashaying down the streets with nothing but their actual undies.

Call us conservative, but we were absolutely dumbfounded by the audacity of this clear piece of ‘thing’ that does nothing for modesty. According Topshop, this pair of jeans that’s priced at S$99 (GBP 55) works as a statement piece. We are pretty certain that you will become the statement.

“Ideal as a statement piece for a festival or costume party, take the look to the extreme with a bikini and sequin jacket or dress down, layered under an oversized jumper or asymmetric hem dress,” reads the description for this item on Topshop’s site.

Fashion is all about trying new things and pushing the boundaries, we get it. But Topshop might have gone over the edge this time. Although we haven’t actually tried it on, we can our legs suffocating in it given our humidity and heat and sweating buckets. Also, isn’t it not environmental to use plastic?

If this is a viral campaign from the media astute company, they have succeeded in creating a lot of internet chatter. Here are some of the reactions from netizens:

And apparently, the clear plastic pants was already in vogue in Korea circa 1981.

This is not the first time Topshop has draw flak from the fashion police. Earlier last month, the fashion brand was ridiculed for selling Clear Knee Mom Jeans, jeans with clear panels on the knees or affectionately referred to as “windows for your knees”.
