Thinking of chopping off your tresses? Hold the scissors! Here’s a simple test to see whether you’ll look good in short hair.
The trick is called the “2.25 inch rule” (or 5.7cm) and is based on measuring the distance between your chin and the bottom of your ear.
If the distance is less than 5.7cm, then you may be cut out for a short bob or pixie do. If the distance is greater, well, you might want to rethink that short style.
According to Giles Robinson, senior stylist at John Frieda Salons UK, it’s all down to the angle of your jaw bone and the 2.25 inch rule is supposed to help you determine that.
Of course, at the end of the day there are more considerations at play when contemplating whether or not to go for a shorter style. The texture and thickness of your hair, how much time you’re willing to devote to the styling and the actual short style itself are all important considerations. Still we think the test is worth a shot.
