Apple Watch’s battery life – 18 hours. Vector Watch’s battery life – 30 days. An impressive feat for such a small device worn around your wrist. New wearable player Vector has unveiled its lineup of smartwatches that feature long-lasting battery life and all eyes are now on the company’s ability to wrestle and tackle with titans Apple and Google.
There are two main models of Vector Watch. The Vector Luna model comes with a round 44mm custom solid stainless-steel case with hardened mineral crystal and is water-resistant up to 50 metres. The Vector Meridian on the other hand has a rectangular stainless-steel 40.5mm case that also comes with the same water-resistant feature. You can choose between a solid stainless steel bracelet, a silicon strap or a leather watch strap for both designs.
The Vector range of smartwatches oozes quality and style. Design-wise, we will place it in the same class as the LG Watch Urbane or the Moto 360. But it is the 30-day battery life that makes this watch a standout. To achieve that feat, the watch face is not a touchscreen (I hear some sighs). Instead, the ‘smart’ features are all handled by three buttons located at the right side of the watch. The company claims that its watches have the best black and white screen in the market allowing long-lasting battery life even with intense usage. So, yay for battery life but neigh for the monochromatic screen.
It is also pretty ambitious for a new entrant to design its own watch operating system instead of going the Android way. Nevertheless, the Vector smartwatches provide an array of smart features like receiving notifications, activity tracking, sleep monitoring and calorie expenditure. However, it remains to be seen how the company can scale up its ecosystem of apps quickly. You can sync the Vector Watch with Apple, Android and Windows smartphones for calendar and email notifications as well.
The round-faced Vector Luna is priced at S$470 while the rectangular-faced Vector Meridian is going for S$270. The watches will go on sale in the US, UK, Hong Kong, Australia, Romania in July 2015. You can pre-order yours at Vector Watch.
