One of the most common feedbacks we heard for the Instagram app, which now has 500 million users, is the missing ‘zoom in’ feature for photos posted on the platform. After 5 long years, the company finally make available the seemingly ‘basic’ pinch and zoom feature to its photos and videos as well. Thank you Instagram!
“Over the past six months, you’ve seen many exciting changes come to Instagram, from a new icon to longer videos and even a new way to share everyday moments with Instagram Stories,” said Instagram.
For pixel-peepers, don’t get too excited just yet. Zooming in on your photos and videos doesn’t give you more details, it simply enlarges it. When you upload a photo or a video to Instagram, it downscales the quality of your content before sharing on its social network. The feature is more like digital zoom on some digital cameras, pixelating the image to give you a closer look. We tried the latest version of the app from the Singapore Apple app store and it works.
Zoom is only available on iOS currently and Instagram will have an Android update up and running in a few weeks.
