While no official announcement has been released by Apple, various news sources are claiming that Apple will be scheduling a March event for the launch of a new 4-inch iPhone 5se, iPad Air 3 and possibly updates to the Apple Watch. Sources are pointing to 15 March and are expecting new products from this announcement to hit online and offline stores as soon as 18 March, just 3 days after the launch.
According to 9to5mac, Apple seems eager to push out its new products before its competitors at the annual MWC 2016 in Barcelona which will run from 21 February. Apple’s plateauing iPhone growth in the last quarter could be the reason Apple is adopting a more aggressive strategy, opting to offer its new products immediately instead of going through a pre-order process similar to its previous launches.
Various sources are reporting that the Apple iPhone 5se will be a 4-inch screen phone and packs an A9 chip, a M9 processor, iPhone 6’s camera system with Live Photos support and an NFC chip for Apple Pay. The iPhone 5se is said to be priced starting from US$450 for the 16GB model.
As for the iPad Air 3, rumours are pointing to a 9.7-inch panel digital tablet that supports Apple Pencil, the latest feature from the recently launched iPad Pro. The new iPad is also expected to include a Smart Connector supporting for Apple-branded accessories, better speaker set up, a A9 processor variant and an iPad first rear-LED flash.
Apple will be taking the opportunity to unveil a series of new Apple Watch Sport bands and software as well. 9to5mac sources are expecting new colours for the elastomer Sport bands, the new leather bands in collaboration with Hermès, new NATO-style nylon bands and a ‘space black’ version of the Milanese Loop, our favourite band from the Apple Watch collection.
