    It appears that it is not just the food scene that is exploding in Asia. After the announcement of Transformer Live theme park and the high profile opening of the Shanghai Disneyland, the entertainment attractions and rides in Asia are only just getting started.

    So, amusement park-goers hang on tight, major studios eyeing a slice of the Asia tourism boom are planning to give you the ride of your life by opening up new theme parks in key locations in Asia over the next 5 years. Here are 8 awesome theme parks in Asia you can expect to visit soon.

    Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) – Malaysia

    Differentiating itself as Asia’s first theme park to focus on animation, Movie Animation Park Studios is a joint-venture between PCB Development Sdn Bhd and RSG MAPS Sdn Bhd. The theme park features over 40 attractions in 6 thematic zones featuring themed rides from animation movies like “Mr Peabody & Sherman”, “Mega-mind”, “The Croods”, “Casper The Friendly Ghost”, “BoBoiBoy” and “The Smurfs”.

    20th Century Fox World – Malaysia

    This highly-anticipated 20th Century Fox theme park is the first theme park from the studio and the first in the world! The theme park would be replacing the now tired looking Genting Outdoor Theme Park in Malaysia. Expect this theme park to go head to head with established locations like Universal Studios in Singapore, Hong Kong Disneyland and the newly opened Shanghai Disneyland. The theme park will feature rides from movies like “Ice Age”, “Rio”, “Alien vs. Predator”, “Planet of the Apes” and “Night at the Museum”.

    When: Late 2016 or Early 2017
    Where: Genting Highlands, Pahang

    Atlantis – Sanya, China

    Following the success of Atlantis Bahamas and Dubai, the Greek-themed water theme resort and park expanding on its popularity and is currently undergoing development in Sanya, China by Fosun International and Kerzner International Holdings. The main attraction for Alantis is its Aquaventure, a large water park filled with maze-like waterslides, ancient temples and exotic marine exhibits.

    When: Tentatively 2017
    Where: Hainan Island

    20th Century Fox World – South Korea and Dubai

    As we await the opening of 20th Century Fox’s first theme park in Malaysia, a second and third Fox World parks are reportedly already in the works. The Korean park will be operated by Australian theme park company Village Roadshow Ltd, while the one in Dubai will be built by Al Ahli Holding Group.

    When: Tentatively 2018 for both locations
    Where: Yeongjong Island (Korea), Dubai Outlet Mall (Dubai)

    Universal Studios – South Korea and Bejing, China

    Beijing will be Universal Studios’ third theme park in Asia after Singapore and Osaka and also the fifth in the world. A Universal Studios theme park is also currently being developed in South Korea. After a troubled start to develop the project in Korea,  the GyeongGi province government has announced that the project is now revived and is expected to be ready in the year 2020.

    When: 2019 (Beijing), 2020 (Korea)

    Ubisoft Theme Park – Malaysia

    The first of its kind indoor theme park will feature rides, attractions and shows inspired by some of Ubisoft’s biggest franchises, such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Ghost Recon, Just Dance, Rainbow Six, Prince of Persia and Raving Rabbids. Building on the successful track record of expanding Ubisoft’s game brands to theme parks like the award-winning Rabbids Dark Ride at French park Futuroscope, the Malaysia them park project will be led by the same Ubisoft Motion Pictures team and will span a total 10,000 square metres.
